Hello world! Thanks for visiting my site.

Heatherlee Nguyen

I’m Heatherlee ✌🏽 TᕼE IᑎᗪIE ᑕOᑎᔕᑌᒪTᗩᑎT I’m one of the best freelance designers you’ll ever partner with. I love what I do and the proof is in the pudding! What makes my work so powerful is I’m so much more than a designer.. I’m an active mom, a mentor, a community maker and, advocate. I’m passionate about a lot of things and I have a bias toward action that’s unmatched!

I’ve been in the field of User Experience / Design for 12 years, starting in content writing while getting my BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, graduating under the guidance of Nancy Rice and many other local legends. In 2016 I took the altMBA, and since then have found an awesome groove speaking on things that matter to me and perfecting my design craft and process.

Many in the community know me from Twin Cities Startup Week (Expecting App 2015), my ignite talks (Free UI (2016) + Biomimmicry (2017), Hack the Gap (hackathon winner 2020), Black Ignite (2020) or from my various engagements with Femmecubator as original board director and now community programming lead. All of this networking and community engagement gives me diverse perspectives, and unique day to day experiences that always feed into great UX work FOR YOU!

I look forward to exploring how we might work together.

“Active participation in the process of creation is our right and our privilege. We can learn to measure the success of our ideas not by our bank accounts but by their impact on the world.”

As a freelancer, my primary focus is helping you bring your vision to life, exceed expectations, and make a positive impact in a short period of time. You can count on me to facilitate sessions, lead the process and work efficiently throughout the project, I’m a seasoned design warrior and want you to get the biggest bang for your buck!

My proven methods can shape and shift for any project, and I put my personal spin on how we get it done. I’ve had the privilege of practicing these methods at corporations like Target, Mayo Clinic, Optum, Capital One, Securian Financial, and Best Buy, and have led UX work for many amazing small B corps including Azul Seven and We Sparkle, as well as nonprofits like Femmecubator.

Twin Cities Designer

I’m a Twin Cities Designer hyper focused on cultivating empathy and radically including users in my process. In 2017, the why became clear. 8 years into my career, after 3 years of supporting high profile projects for Optum (+ UnitedHealth Group), I started my own consultancy motivated to move fast & fulfill a greater purpose.

My claim to fame is the diversity of thought and experience I bring as a “job jumper.” Over the years I’ve proven that not staying anywhere too long fuels open-mindedness and ultimately, better work. As a working mom, fiercely dedicated to community, I believe my unique life experiences and evolving perspectives are a value-add for any team trying to innovate and create change.

When I’m not keeping office hours I’m outdoors cycling, practicing yoga and doing all the mom things.

I can’t share a lot of my work publicly. For work examples and case studies please contact me directly heatherlee.ux@gmail.
